With the retirement of the #22 jersey of 13-year Philadelphia KiXX goalkeeper Peter Pappas coming this Sunday, we take a look at the Top 5 moments of the illustrious goalkeeper's career.
Next up in our countdown is the #3 moment in his career, which happened back in April of 2002. The KiXX had its best regular season to date, ending the year with a 30-14 record and advancing to the 2001-02 Major Indoor Soccer League Championship Series for the second straight season. The opponent was the same as the year before in the defending champion Milwaukee Wave.
After a bitter 11-4 defeat in Game One, Philadelphia responded with two consecutive victories. The first was an 11-4 win at home in the First Union Spectrum (now known as the Wachovia Spectrum), and the second was an 8-6 triumph at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. With the final win on the turf of the Wave, the KiXX raised the MISL Championship Trophy for the first time in franchise history. None were happier or more instrumental than the man who worked the goal for the team, Peter Pappas.
